I got a text message and a call from the Mom of my autistic student. She’s panicking because her daughter is not pronouncing the letters M and N anymore! It’s missing! I thought great-what a way to start my vacation! Missing letters-interesting! :) I told her all the possibilities why her daughter is not pronouncing the letters properly:maybe she heard it on TV, she’s playing with them, she’s imitating somebody, she wants attention, etc. etc.
Mom’s not convinced with the different possibilities, she kept on telling me that her daughter is calling her “Baba” instead of Mama and “Ate Dova” (Ate Nova-one of her nanny). So the letter M becomes B and the letter N becomes D, hmmm cute! Kidding! I really don’t know what happened to her, it’s impossible that she regress because the school has just ended. When I asked the Mom what does her daughter do at home, she told me that she’s just lying around the whole day! Oh no! No, no, no, no, nooo! What were they thinking, she’s autistic not catatonic!
Sometimes parents doesn’t have patience to deal with their kids-special or not. As long as the child is quiet and not doing anything harmful okey lang, they don’t even talk to the child and now they’re panicking because some letters are missing-c’mon! I hate it when parents are like that! Tsk tsk. I told her that her daughter needs ACTIVITIES and SOMEONE who will talk to her or will practice her to answer back (mostly, autistic doesn’t talk that much).
Now, I have to go to their house to check what’s going on with her daughter and find out why the letters M and N are missing. (to be continued…)
